The head lines on page 14 of Hindustan Times of Friday Dec 16 on  illegal capital flight says  ” India lost $128bn in illicit outflows in 2009 .. ”

But the table on the side indicating the illicit outflows from various developing countries, according to the study conducted by the global Financial Integrity  suggests misleading figures.

While all other countries illicit outflows are for a decade with China topping the list with $2.7trn India’s $128bn is of just one year, in 2009 .

This one year figure of India is put at the bottom of the table along with figures of  a decade of other countries. This is misleading. If the reader is not careful enough to read the report he is sure to be misled by the table that China’s Illicit outflows are nearly 20 times of that of India’s. China’s figure is for a decade and India’s is that of a year.

HT has  a mischievous hand  underplaying  the seriousness of the quantum of illegal capital flight from India that is causing havoc with our  economy. Readers are reading the Newspapers yet. HT please stop this indulgence to please a particular political party caught in the Swiss Stash issue .
