Motto “Satyameva Jayate “——Prof R R Pillai
Motto “Satyameva Jayate” must be inscribed below the profile of the Lion Capital when used as State Emblem. I have noticed very often this motto doesn’t appear as part of the emblem in Government’s advertisements. Recently the full page advertisements of Coal India Ltd appearing in the leading newspapers were glaring examples. These are clear violation of the rules and laws by the government itself.
Even the Press Information Bureau of Delhi from where the ministers do press briefings the backdrop of PIB doesn’t carry the motto Satyameva Jayate. As late as during the Anna Hazare’s briefings the ministers were oblivious to the fact that the motto Satyameva Jayate was absent in the State Emblem.
If I am not mistaken the earlier Ten Rupee note series didn’t carry the motto Satyameva Jayate.
Government now has warned the people that incomplete and unauthorised usage of State Emblem is punishable offence, as put out in the Calcutta High Court order dated July 14, 2011.
But the government itself must put its house in order by refraining from using the emblem without the motto Satyameva Jayate in many of its ministries and departments.
It is shocking but true that this important motto has escaped the eyes of our government for so long a time. Or was it mischievous ?
