Election results are turning into a nightmare for a few candidates election after elections. And for others they are simply shocking and stunning. Look at the results of Jayalalitha’s party and those of the Communists’. If the former did not win even a single seat, the Marxists won by a historically unprecedented high margin. That was the so-called verdict of the people in the 2004 Loksabha elections. Thanks to our Electronic Voting Machines, Jayalalitha even filed a case alleging manipulation of the EVMs to suit the particular party. However, the courts are still not putting their best foot forward to nail the problem.

Why many brilliant candidates do not qualify for teaching in colleges or in University of Mumbai and other prestigious centres of learning across the country. Many brilliant candidates with first class at MSc, MCom or MA level fail to qualify the NET/SET examinations and quite a few of those who do get into the colleges are just mediocre. A lot of them are not even able to express themselves in the language of instruction, English. Apart from being heavily accented, these candidates are also deficient in the subject that they teach.

And so they all want to make India a Superpower by 2020. Our leaders and the people who matter much are at it day and night. My only advice is that they must go on and on. The Mayavatis must go on and must go on building any number of her statues even while she is still alive. She should take care to have more folds on her dress to splurge with ease. And the Dr Singhs, the PMs and the CMs must go on overshooting the budget for social spending and ballooning the deficit and then wonder how to rein in the deficit. They must go on accumulating tons and tons of gold in the hope of fixing the fiscal profligacy, so that one day they can distribute pieces of gold to the poor to alleviate poverty instead of the mid-day meals of today.

Many students have the ambition to become professionals like Doctors, Lawyers, Architects, Chartered Accountants, and Engineers etc. But quite a few of them also find it not as easy as to how to go about it. Especially when they are at the entry level studies of these courses. One should never be in a hurry to get these courses finished anyway.
