Jha of Aarakshan Blinks
Prakash Jha the director of the film Aarakshan a week ago maintained that why should he hold a special screening for a select few politicians for their go ahead signal for the release of his film when the censor board has already cleared it. But now two days before the film release political leader , Chagan Bujbal got a special screening and it is reported the Jha even has agreed to have a few cuts as per Bhujbal’s wish.
Is that not undermining the wisdom of Censor Board which is very often accused of not being liberal enough. Jha should have stood his ground and not surrendered.
A director of Jha’s status who believes in sending a strong message through his films on a burning issue preferred to give in to the very forces which are often the cause for the ills of the society. Commercial considerations have overwhelmed moral, legal and ethical ones for Jha.
Another political leader Ramdas Athawale too want to okay the film for its release in Maharashtra. More flood gates for Jha. Watching Jha’s film heroes roaring for fair and just in the reel life may be captivating but Jha should have braved it through in real life too, to send a message that institutional wisdom in a job fairly done cannot be scissored through individual’s whims.
By this surrender Jha will have his profits but true praise for the film maker will be delivered with a cut !
