HT’s 1st Leader Edit Caught Napping – Prof. R R Pillai
HT’s first leader on the Edit page today praising the Parliament speaks volumes on the Edit writers’ personal agenda in writing the editorials which are suppose to enlighten readers on important issues through fair and just analysis based on facts. Every body who watched Rajya Sabha proceedings till midnight on TV was witness to how the ruling party Parliamentarians scuttled the voting and left the anti graft Bill in the limbo. Many party leaders said ” One of the saddest days in India’s democracy ‘ TMC one of the Congress ‘s ally called it ‘ Murder of Democracy.
After all these disturbing happenings at night the vigilant HT Edit asks us to gulp down the praises on parliament from moving on from discord, disruption, derailment to dissent, debate and even dialogue.
Sorry, that was the beginning of the story, and in the end the decencies vanished and the Ruling party’s MPs uncovered their masks and murdered democracy.
The edit clearly brings forth the fact that it was written much before the facts were unfolding. To pursue the particular line of personal agenda of the writer the edit goes on ‘ The conduct of the Parliament takes the sting out of the unsubstantiated allegations made by Team Anna of sabotage and subversion of its latest protests by the government. ‘
The sting was very much there and felt by all who watched the Choreographed disruptions in Rajya Sabha by the Congress when it came to voting, When the Congress could do the sabotage with such audacity and temerity even as the whole world was watching how could it not have indulged in sabotaging Team Anna Protests behind the back with Impunity.
The edit finally ends up attacking Team Anna and concludes, the political establishment is behaving in a responsible manner once again and has put decency and discourse back into democracy. Sorry once again. That was not seen, felt or heard in Rajya Sabha in the end.
It seems the writer was more in a hurry to attack Team Anna . But the edit falls flat after the truth was unfolded in Rajya Sabha.
I am sure that the propaganda edit writer must be feeling miserable when he reads his own edit after the Congress Parliamentarians subversive tactics at the cost of legitimate democratic process that has put every right thinking citizens to shame.
