Ex PM Of Singapore Goh Chok Tong and Modi The PM Of India – Prof R R Pillai
TOI reports Ex PM Of Singapore Goh Chok Tong’s views on Modi the PM of India in today’s edition. Goh says Modi is not a scholar like Vajpayee but is a man of action. The former PM of Singapore adds Modi knows his subjects well and will get things done. But says, his worry is people have great expectations from Modi and that they may get impatient.
Here what it becomes necessary to educate people, getting impatient is not in the interest of the nation. Since the economy was in dire state for long and is just showing signs of revival people must not expect things to bloom in a hurry.
Modi has already tightened the screws on officials to deliver public services and is providing the vision and direction how to take the country forward. His plans for 100 smart cities to provide the growth momentum is a gigantic task and surely will take time, hence patience from all section of Indian society will pay off in times to come.
The fiscal health too is not all that pink. Revenue generation is a mammoth task to fund the investment requirements given the low growth numbers.Modi is providing the necessary impetus to use the available resources efficiently till growth momentum picks up. So patience is the necessary virtue that is the demand of times from every responsible citizen.
But the Congress wants to fish in troubled waters as it is reeling under the terrible defeat in LS elections to some how keep its flock together. The CM of Maharashtra released recently a book on the failures of Modi government.
It talks about how Modi government has not kept the promises. On inflation front it says Modi government has failed to control the prices. Now every common man knows how monsoon has been playing truant this season. After dilly dallying due to El Nino factor, it rained very heavily in some parts of the country on and off but the North of India got the dry spell and the Modi government had to declare these regions as drought affected. It is common sense that with such vagaries of monsoon supply of vegetables and fruits gets disrupted and price rise is the burden we all have to bear. Nature’s whims Modi government has no power to tame.
But Congress blaming Modi for this smacks of political scoring than rational analysis therefore a disservice to the nation.People need to be educated to wait for things to unfold, instead Congress is egging people to become restless, which right thinking people will see through. Congress must accept defeat for lack performance and putting the entire nation under stress due to scams, corruption and policy paralysis on an unprecedented scale.
Modi’s hands are full and in the just 100 days that passed by what Modi government has done on various fronts has received kudos from industry captains. Goh sums up ” There is a sense of purpose in the new government” If Congress can’t see this and wants to pick holes on Modi Government performance without substance it only speeaks how weak and low the Grand Old Party has descended into.
Congress must stop egging people to become impatient and let government accomplish the task and learn to earn goodwill of common man thru serving him than stirring up his emotions to serve personal political ends of Congress Party.
India needs a leader who can get things done in the interest of the nation. Modi has all the qualities needed and like Sardar Patel who unified India into a Country Modi is all set to change India for better. Modi needs time and nobody should grudge to give that when other options are dangerous and deadly. I am ready to wait. So should all concerned Indians.
We must show to leaders like Goh Chok Tong that we are not irrational and that we shall show patience as India is moving to transform itself into a great nation under Modi’s leadership. And I am much certain once again people will show Congress the door for disservice to the nation even at this time of the hour. Congress is losing patience India will not, for sure .
