Fans, Leaders and Cricket!
Rahul Gandhi the youth icon of India who visits the Dalits and lectures college kids often to show his connect with the downtrodden and the youth was enjoying the World Cup Cricket match when he should have boycotted watching the match in the stadium to be in tune with thousands of youth the real cricket fans who were denied the tickets and the pleasure of watching the same live.
It was indeed sordid and sad to watch the young cricket fans with their college bags swung over their shoulders and waiting in the queue to get the tickets, beaten by the law- keepers. Tickets were usurped by all and sundry rich and clubs while the true fans were not given a fair share.
It was okay for Dr. Singh the PM to have watched the match with the Pakistani PM as the Indo-Pak talk was to be on simultaneously, after a brief watch.
But leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Advani, Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj and others to be in the stadium, when it was amply clear that the cricket- runners had not been fair to the fans in the ticket sale, meant none of them were sensitized on this issue. They grabbed the piece of fun at the cost of being fair. I wish at least one leader had stood for the common cricket fan and surrendered the ticket, citing mismanagement in the cricket affairs as the reason and watched the match on TV as millions of legitimate fans did!
