Though the symbol for our currency Rupee has been already adopted I would like to present the following.Sorry for the delay.

For our currency Rupee I suggest the following symbols.(sketches to follow)

It is the letter  ‘O’ with the two parallel lines dashed across it jetting a bit on either ends of these lines.That is the capital letter ‘O’ which resembles Zero.Again the Zero resembling elliptical Greek letter Theta with one more line across to differentiate from the letter too would do for our Rupee.And finally the numerical Zero itself with the two lines across it would be a great symbol.

Why these would be great symbols for our Indian Rupee.

Since India gave the number Zero to the world and the letter O too is similar to Zero it would be easily identified with India.This currency symbol of letter O with two lines resting on it majestically would represent the combination of the Roman letter and our ethos thus.

The letter ‘O’ representing the the Roman Script, one line representing our Devnagiri top border and one line for the currency indication.

This symbol matching with the Zero would be easy and quick on the recall by the number crunching currency world since they know well, we gave the world , Zero.

The great scientist and genius Albert Einstein once said ‘without the number zero given by India,  the world of science, maths and computers is unthinkable.Thus Zero and India is well connected.

Also the well known currencies  Dollar, Pound Sterling ,Yen, Euro too have the Roman alphabet in their symbol.Along the same line will be the Roman alphabet ‘O’ with the lines across, to represent the Rupee.

Theta and the number Zero too similarly with the two lines on them would be along the same lines  a match for the symbol of the Rupee.

Behind all these symbols the emphasis is on the significance of the number Zero and India’s association with it. Zero is part of our History and when it is associated with our currency it gives a great continuity to our history.The world will remember this Rupee symbol with great ease, associating with our history rather effortlessly.

Finally the letter ‘O’ would be easier to write  than the Rupee symbol in the present form since the world is already familiar with the writing of the letter ‘O’ in the every day use.

I feel the above symbols suggested go along well with our honourable contribution to the world and I am sure a second look at these would be worth the while.
